Background of the Study

Traditional crafts are integral to cultural heritage, reflecting the identity, history, and creativity of a community. In Kware Local Government Area, Sokoto State, traditional crafts such as pottery, weaving, and blacksmithing play a significant role in the local economy and cultural preservation. However, these crafts face challenges such as declining interest among younger generations, limited market access, and competition from mass-produced goods. Communication strategies, including public awareness campaigns, social media promotions, and community engagement programs, have been identified as vital tools for promoting and sustaining traditional crafts (Abubakar & Yusuf, 2024). These strategies help to raise awareness about the cultural and economic value of traditional crafts, create demand in both local and global markets, and encourage skill transmission to younger generations. This study explores the roles of communication strategies in promoting traditional crafts in Kware LGA, examining their effectiveness in sustaining these cultural practices.

1.2 Statement of the Problem

Despite the rich tradition of crafts in Kware LGA, there is a noticeable decline in their production and patronage. Factors such as limited visibility, inadequate promotion, and the undervaluation of traditional crafts have contributed to their diminished status. Furthermore, many artisans face challenges in accessing modern markets and reaching potential customers due to ineffective communication strategies (Garba & Musa, 2025). This study investigates the roles of communication strategies in addressing these challenges, promoting traditional crafts, and ensuring their sustainability in Kware LGA.
